A Review of Constancia

As I said in my previous post 22nd June was our wedding anniversary which we celebrated with at day at the Warmer Bros studio tour. We followed that up in the evening with a meal at one of our favourite local restaurants. Constancia is a family run Argentine Grill and Steakhouse which has been in its current location in Bermondsey since 2009. Situated on the corner of Tanner Street and Tower Bridge Road Constancia is in a prime location and is just a short walk away from the bustling areas of Bermondsey Street and Maltby Street. If you know the area  the restaurant is on the site of the old Raven at the Tower pub.
We have been eating here for many years now and its become our 'go to' restaurant for celebrations and special occasions. Its just a 5 min walk from where we live so its absolutely perfect as it means we can share a bottle of wine without any worry about getting home or Tom having to drive. We had made our booking a few weeks ago and as they knew it was our anniversary we were served glass of cava on arrival, what a lovely way to start our night. Its quite a small place so I would always recommend booking in advance especially if you want to visit at the weekend when its pretty much always full.

The menu is quite small compared to some other places but that isn't a problem for us, we quite like the fact that Constancia concentrate on quality rather than quantity. A lot of the ingredients used here are sourced from Borough Market which is good to know. For our starters we shared the Chorizo & Morcilla (Argentine Sausage & Spanish Black Pudding) and some Prosciutto Toscano (Tuscan Prosciutto ham). Both were absolutely delicious and were served with some complimentary bread. Unfortunately we were both so hungry that we had completely devoured both plates of food before I remembered that I hadn't taken any pics!

For our mains Tom had the 11oz Ojo de Bife (Ribeye - cooked well done) and I had the 7oz Bife de Lomo (Sirloin - cooked medium). We ordered half portions of the Garlic & Parsley fries and Tomato & Onion salads as our sides to share. All steaks also come with a little pot of homemade chimichurri sauce.

We were both pretty full by the time we had finished our mains so we decided to share a pudding rather than have one each. We opted for the Anglo Argentino, a homemade Brownie which is served with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce & dulce de leche. This is the most gooey, delicious and chocolatey brownie I have ever eaten and  it was a lovely way to round off our night.

As always the food and service were absolutely first class and we would have no hesitation in recommending Constancia to anyone who is looking for a good quality steak meal. Its not a cheap restaurant which is why we tend to save our visits for special occasions but its worth every penny. For us we really like that is a small independent restaurant rather than part of a chain, we do love to support a good local business.

* This is not a AD or a sponsored post, the meal was paid for entirely by us and we have received nothing at all from Constancia for my posting this review.
