November Week 4

Here we are, another week over, the end of November is almost upon us which means its almost time for Blogmas! I already have the first post drafted to share with you, just need to check it over and add images and it will be good to go.

This week has been a busy one for me, I had a funeral to attend on Tuesday and then on Wednesday I went down to Crowborough in East Sussex to work from our head office for the day. I usually go there once a month and I really enjoy my days there as I always manage to get loads of month end stuff done. Its about an hour and a quarter each way on the train from London although this time it seemed to take forever to get home as the train was so slow.

In other news I have finally managed to find a dress for the work Christmas party which pleased me no end as I was starting to think that I wasn't going to get anything new. I have been looking for about a month now and just couldn't find anything anywhere that I liked, that fitted properly or was suitable (talking cutaways, bare tums, too short, too low cut etc, etc.....). There is a sneek peek below of the dress fabric but you will have to pop back in Dec for the full reveal. Luckily I have shoes and a bag so now I just need to match some accessories and I will be good to go.
After work on Friday I headed to Debenhams in Oxford Street for a brow appointment with Kim on the Benefit counter, Tom was coming to meet me and we had planned to spend a couple of hours wandering about and maybe stopping for a drink and a bite to eat. As you may have seen on the news there was an 'incident' at Oxford Circus station on Friday which caused a huge wave of panic in the area. This all happened just as Kim was finishing up on my brows when suddenly the store was filled with people running in from the street, screaming and fearing for their lives as they had heard that there had been shots fired and that there were gunmen on the scene. The resulting chaos and police actions meant that I, along with hundreds of others were locked inside Debenhams for the next hour or so while the police investigated. I can honestly say I don't think that I have ever seen or felt such fear which for me was heightened even more as I knew Tom was somewhere outside waiting for me. The staff in the store were fantastic and given that they were probably just as scared as everyone else they did their best to make sure everyone stayed calm, they were handing out water and chocolates and bringing pillows and blankets for people that needed them. Eventually we were all allowed to exit the store as the police had confirmed that it was safe to leave and that it has just been an altercation between two men at the tube station that caused the panic. I am so glad that it was nothing more and that it was not another terrorist attack, yes people probably over reacted but given what we have been through this year I am not surprised. I think it just goes to show how much on alert we all are right now, especially in the lead up to Christmas when the crowds are out in force. Anyway Tom and I finally managed to find each other and as we were both a little shook up we headed straight home as we didn't fancy staying in the West End. We ended up at our local Indian restaurant having something to eat and a very much needed drink.

Saturday was a lazy day at home although most of it for me was spent in the kitchen baking a cake for our niece's 13th birthday. Scarlett had requested a chocolate & mint oreo cake and although the one I made looks nothing like the picture she sent me she was more than pleased with how it turned out. It tasted pretty good too although I dread to think how many Weight Watchers points were in each slice.
We celebrated Scarlett's birthday at my Mums on Sunday with a lovely family birthday tea. Its the first time in ages we have been together so it was really nice to see everyone and have some family fun.

I hope you have all had a good week and weekend, as always thanks for stopping by to read. I really do appreciate each and everyone one of you that reads and comments.

Love and hugs, Jane xx

August Catch Up

Hello all, firstly I am sorry for the lack of posts/updates......the cold that was brewing just after my birthday turned a tad nasty and ended up as a upper respiratory tract infection. Unfortunately there was nothing the doctor could give me so I just had to rely on Nurofen and Piriton (at the docs suggestion). I had a really rough couple of days where I didn't get much sleep at all as I was constantly coughing during the night, a lack of sleep certainly didn't help my recovery that's for sure, I honestly hadn't felt this rough in ages but thankfully I am now feeling much better. Luckily my week was fairly quiet plus I had a half day on Thursday as I wanted to spend some time with Lucy before she and Katie headed off to Europe. Tom and I met them at Tower Bridge where we all went to do the Tower Bridge Exhibition. This is the bit at the top of the bridge that links the two towers and its somewhere I have wanted to go for quite a while. It was a fun thing to do, especially as it has a glass floor you can walk along. The views are pretty cool although they are somewhat obscured. Afterwards we went to the local Wetherspoons for dinner before we said our goodbyes. It was lovely to see Lucy and to meet Katie, I am so pleased that they decided to spend some time in London before they started their tour.

I went for weigh in at Weight Watchers and was pleased to have a loss of 2lbs, a step back in the right direction. I really need to try and stay on track now and focus on getting to goal. For me the key to this is to menu plan and make use of the WW app. Time to get the cookbooks out and start planning again.

Tom worked Friday and Saturday night so it was a very quiet weekend for me, which is just what I needed. On Saturday I didn't do very much at all apart from potter about and bake a batch of chocolate cupcakes with salted caramel frosting (hmmmm they are not very WW friendly!!lol).
Sunday was pretty much the same although instead of baking I spent some time in my craft room and did a couple more pages for the holiday album. I am still working on the Disney section which I have to say I am loving scrapping. Pics of the layouts will follow in a later post. Sunday evening was spent chilling out on the sofa and watching the final Harry Potter film - the perfect way to end the weekend.

I hope you are all well and that you all had a good weekend, did you do anything exciting?

As always thanks for stopping by for a read, love and hugs - Jane xx

Baking Again

Afternoon all...

Well today has been a lovely day, once again the sun has been shining so I have been able to have the windows open and as Tom has been at work I had a day to myself.

It was a toss up between getting up and and going to the Knitting & Stitching Fair at Olympia or spending the day at home enjoying the peace and quiet. In the end I opted for the day at home as I really didn't fancy the crowds or getting the tube....so a day of domestic bliss it was!!

I pottered around doing a few chores before I decided to make some cupcakes, something I haven't done in ages. I was just going to make a batch of plain/vanilla cakes but I got a bit carried away and ended up making a batch of Red Velvet with Vanilla butter-cream frosting and a batch of chocolate with chocolate fudge butter-cream frosting. I was also going to make a white chocolate, raspberry & lime loaf cake but in the end I didn't bother as that would have just been cake overload (especially when you consider there are just two of us at home). Instead I made some mango, chilli and lime chutney using a Jamie Oliver recipe to go with the curries that we are having for dinner tonight. The mango and the chilli were part of this weeks Abel and Cole fruit and veg delivery, we are still loving having the box each week and I love finding new ways of cooking and using up what we have been sent.

Last Saturday Tom took me Sugar and Spice which is located in the Barleylands craft village in Billericay. It was fab to actually go to a real life craft shop, something I dont do very often these day. I did spend a little more than planned but with all that lush stash to choose from it couldnt be helped. There was actually a Farmers Market on last weekend, now this pleased Tom as he does like a FM and this may be a great help when planning for future trips over to Sugar and Spice!! One of the stalls we particually liked was the Spice Queen which sells little pots of dried, mixed spices to make various different curries. We bought three of them try out, a lamb curry, a kidney bean curry (both of which we are going to try out tonight) and a red lentil curry. It seems like a great way to try out some new recipes without buying loads of jars of spices that you only need a tiny amount of and that are likely to go out of date before you even get halfway through the jar.

I have added below a couple of pics of the cakes I made today, thought I would share them with you. Just a shame I cant actually share the cakes with you too...!!

Hope you are all well and enjoying this lovely early Spring, lets keep our fingers crossed that it lasts..

Thanks for stopping by my little blog,

Love and hugs, Jane

Cake and Bakes

Today I went to the Cake Making and Decorating exhibition/show at the Excel centre with my friend Theresa. Cake making has turned into something I am quite enjoying at the moment so I wanted to go along and get a few bits to add to my baking stash. The show was great and we both got loads of inspiration for future baking, there was so much on offer. I was after a cupcake stand and a cake caddy which I managed to get along with some glitters, cupcake cases, sugar paste, cutters and toppers. I probably could have bought loads more but the show was really busy and at times you just couldn't get to see what was on the stands. BY the time we left we were both quite frazzled by all the constant pushing and shoving!! I have attached a couple of pictures of what I bought, am hoping to have a play with these next weekend...
Tomorrow we are supposed to be going to watch George play in his last game of the season, however that may now be called off due to the awful weather and constant rain that we currently have. This afternoon I made some chocolate and vanilla cupcakes to take along with me, but if the game is cancelled it looks like it will just be me and Tom eating them!!
Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend....I will post again tomorrow to share a couple more layouts with you. TTFN x x
